For the 5th edition of the concept store, artist Fabien Ficher offers a set of in situ installations, sculptures and spatial canvases, all centered around the theme of perception. Titled « AXYZ », his works is spread throughout the gallery, among the works of different artists, designers, and creators, and builds and sensitive and visual journey for the viewers.

Mainly composed of light tubes and reflective surfaces, each work of the exhibition provides to the eyes of the spectator, a unique spatial illusion thanks to games of reflection.

The physical presence of the viewer, as the environment that surrounds him, is an integral part of each work. His perception allows him to interpret light effects as perspectives. Without it, the exhibition is no more than a simple assembly of physical elements without spatial depth;

Light, space and perception are intrinsically linked and implemented by Fabien Ficher, in order to destabilizing the viewer’s senses and questioning their perceptual habits.

X

Titled « X », this installation is fully adapted to the showcase dimensions of the gallery. Composed of six luminous and reflective faces, the work generates a portion of space visible only from the outside.

Luminous tubes, all directed along the spatio-temporal axis X, offer both a framing to the space constituting the work as well as a unique point of view for the spectator.

Thanks to reflection effects, this installation produces, in the eyes of the spectator, the illusion of a space crossing the entire gallery, similar to an endless luminous tunnel.

Composed of reflective surfaces and a luminous tube, the work takes place in a corner. It forms a full-height prism, whose main side, the only one visible to the viewer, acts as a window.

This work is based on a paradox. By definition, an angle is the point formed by two intersecting lines. In architecture, it is the junction of two surfaces that closes and delimits a space. The closer you get to the corner, the tighter the space becomes, both physically and sensibly.

Fabien Ficher’s installation contradicts this notion. In addition to questioning the sensory habits of the spectator, it generates the illusion of a point of view towards a luminous forest spreading in a limitless space.

Z

This third installation of the “AXYZ” exhibition, designed by Fabien Ficher, is erected vertically over the entire height of the gallery space. It is composed of two reflective panels located on either side of a luminous tube.

These horizontal surfaces, facing each other, generate visual openings in the floor and ceiling. Caught between the two reflective surfaces, the tube seems to penetrate the entire exhibition space along the spatiotemporal axis Z.

This light source attracts and directs the eye. Depending on the point of view and the distance that the viewer maintains with the work, the illusion of a perspective even goes so far as to resemble an endless bidirectional skylight.
